Universal Plastic Factory PLC (UPF) was founded by Mr. Sebastiano Amara and his family in 1995. Although Mr. Sebastiano first came to Ethiopia in 1930 and started his first private mechanical engineering company in 1952, he was forced to leave the country during the Derge regime before coming back to Ethiopia to start UPF.

For the past 25 years, Mr. Sebastiano and his two children Mr. Angelo Amara and Mr. Gabriele Amara (who is the currently General Manager of the business) built UPF from making its first Ambo Mineral water crate by means of a single injection machine having an output capacity of 600 crates a day, to becoming the biggest manufacturer of beverage crates in Ethiopia.

In 2017, with an ambition to make UPF one of the regions’ leading plastic and crate manufacturing companies, the Amara family decided to welcome a new partner into the business.

Today, with strong partnerships developed over the years, a clear strategy and strong values that have been embedded in its day to day operations, UPF continues to serve its customers with diligence and products of superior quality.
